Lake and River Microbes essays

Lake and River Microbes essays The microscopic organisms of local aquatic ecosystems, is important to the health and homeostasis of the natural environment. There are many types of microscopic organisms that dwell in the local lakes, streams, and rivers. Microorganisms' such as protists "algae" and microscopic invertebrates can be found in great quantities in the lo;cal; water systems. The most commonly found microorganisms are the prootozoans. The protozoans are divided in to two groups: the protists (plant like cholorophillic heterozygous eugenic prokaryotes) and algaey (animal like). The protists are all microscopic, unicellular eucaryotes. All are heterotrophic. Protists differ from other eucaryotic organisms in that they have a cell membrane made of a substance called pellicillin. They are classified according to the motility of the thing: the class mastigophora are protists that move through the use of flagellum (long whip-like structures), the class pseudofootia are the protists that move through walking (ameba), and the phylum ciliaphora are the protists that move through the use of cilicone (hair-like processes). There are also another group of protists called the sporozoans, which are immobile parasites. All forms of protist were found in the water samples except for the sporozoans. The other types of protozoan found were algae. Algae can be either unicellular or multicellular. All ore autotropic (they photosynthesize) and a few are both heterotrophic and autotrophic. Algae do not have any tissue, which is why they are not considered plants. Rather they exist in a state known as "ethereal entropic euphrigenesis." While there are many types are algae is the one be most commonly found in fresh water are the green algae (chlorphycophyta), euglenas (euglenophycophyta), and the golden algae (chrysophycophyta), which includes the diatoms. Brown algae and red algae are usually not found in freshwater. The euglena are flagellated algae ...

Service Sector Marketing Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Service Sector Marketing - Assignment Example This definition can be linked to the activities of Leith Agency. A similar definition was offered by Collins and Payne (1991) when the researchers stated that "services are any primary or complementary activity that does not directly. Produce a physical product - that is, the non-goods part of the transaction between customer and provider". This paper therefore, addresses four important questions within the service marketing literature focusing on the case Leith Agency. The traditional marketing mix originated from the marketing of goods for consumer markets and consists of the well known 4P's: Price, Promotion, Place, and Product. The marketing mix approach has been criticized for being incomplete, because it does not bear in mind customer-needs and it industrial marketing (Bitner, 1995, Gronroos, 1990; Gummesson, 1997). Judd (1997) proposes the fifth element as People and takes thereby the human resource factor into account. Booms and Bitner (1981) on their part created 7P's by adding Participants, Physical Evidence, and Process to the original 4P's. The first P-The product refers to as the service and satisfaction offered by Leith Agency to their customers. Here these are the various forms of advertisement refered to as creative output they offer. The second P-The price of the service is the compensation they received in the form of a fee or 15% commission while the place is the office location were exchange takes place. At Leith Agency, the Edinburgh and London offices are the place. The fourth element refers to as Promotion. At Leith Agency, they use both above the line and below the line strategies. Corporate brand building through sponsors. Here the marketing budget are kept at a minimum In the marketing mix literature, the last three elements were added to take care of the service dimension of the product service mix continuum. No wonder, many commentators have refered to the additional three Ps as the Service Ps. This position was supported by Payne & Clark (1995) who proposed one minor modification which leads to their expanded marketing mix for services. Figure 1The 7P's Model Source: Payne and Clark, 1995 Delivering services is characterized by processes. This is actually due to the in-separation of production and consumption of services. Processes are the functional attributes of services which refers to how services are delivered. On the other hand, the service product is the technical quality, and refers to what is delivered. At Leith Agency, this will be the different advertisement options they offer their client, while the processes will be the different media through which the adverts get to the customers. That is the tasks, customers interaction, etc. The consideration of processes in the service marketing mix is justified and crucial to Leith Agency because it includes procedures, tasks, activities and operations which are of importance for the interaction between the service provider (Leith Agency)

Powell scholarship Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Powell scholarship - Essay Example After this I work with them on their math problems and give them some pointers. 2) I am also a math manager and member at the Worcester Academy. This role is slightly different from that of a tutor because I compete with some of my fellow peers in nationwide math competitions. Over the years I have attended math competitions such as MML, WOCOMAL, and even the prestigious HMNT, which is a Harvard run math competition. Before my team and I go to competitions, we put in many hours of hard study and practice with questions that are likely to come up in competition. For the latest national competition that we entered, our team came in third place. 3) Another role that I have is with the badminton club, where I have the dual role of co-founder and captain. Although there was already some badminton clubs in the same area, many of them were segregated in terms of race or ethnicity. Before I began the club, I saw that badminton players of different cultures rarely mixed together except when c ompeting against each other, so I wanted to do something about that. My club has a wide mix of international students and Americans who learn to have fun while playing badminton and also develop great friendships off the court. 4) I am also a member of a Destination Imagination team, where students have to use their creative talents to create successful ventures. There are many new challenges each semester, and the students have to learn how to work together to achieve a shared goal. Last year there was a competition where our team had the challenge of creating a movie trailer with limited production costs ($200). Our creative abilities helped stretch this budget through the use of recycled products as props. Although we only had limited resources and funds, as a team we were able to come up with a successful end product. 5) Another great activity of mine is playing on the soccer team at Concord Christian Academy. Although I had only played the sport a little before I joined the tea m, my primary reason for doing so was to become friends with American students and practice my English speaking and listening abilities. Before I was on the team, I did not really get the chance to mix with Americans. As an added bonus, my skill level improved relatively quickly and I became a starter. This helped me to improve my English even further because the rest of the team accepted me as a real player on the team. I put down my knowledge of the English language to being able to get along with native speakers in a fun setting. 6) One of my greatest leadership roles is acting as a proctor. This role entails great responsibility and it has helped me to develop great leadership skills. Part of my responsibilities is to supervise students during studies and make sure that they stay focused on their work. This role has also helped to develop my self-confidence because I have gained respect from many of the students. Further responsibilities include organizing the dorm room that I s leep in, and decorating the wall to make the dorm welcoming for any new student. Organizing dorm championships has helped to build camaraderie among the dorm members and helped them to develop lasting friendships beyond the dorm. 7) I also have volunteering experience working as a dental assistant. The head dentist is my mother’s friend. This role is not a paid position, although the experience that I have gained has been

Approaches of Organizations Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Approaches of Organizations - Research Paper Example The idea of invisible hand dictates that if all the individuals of the society would go on to pursue their own self-interests then not only they would achieve their own goals and objectives but at the same time, they will also satisfy the societal needs and expectations (Dyck & Neubert, 2008). Even if the company and its managers appear to be focusing on other variables such as environmental preservation, employee development, stakeholder management and others, that is only because they want to achieve the financial result which is the bottom line of the company. Much of the productivity and development that we witness today is actually a result of mainstream approach, which ruled the management and industrial scene for decades. On the other hand, multistream management refers to the approach, which calls for taking the holistic view of well being of multiple stakeholders associated with the operations of the business. Managers using the multistream management approach are more likel y to focus on practical wisdom, experimentation, workplace democracy, self-control, dignification, ethical conduct, and others. The company and its managers realize that they are operating in a wider other, where the extended society and its members are also the stakeholders of the company. Financial numbers and quarterly results become a secondary concern for the company and its managers and the prime focus become managing and balancing the company’s expectations with the well being and requirements of all stakeholders.

Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage Essay example -- Civil Rights, Homosexual

The issue of legalizing same-sex marriage is one of great controversy. There are some people who think that gay people have no rights and should never be allowed to marry. Other people believe that gay people are just like anyone else and should enjoy the same rights and privileges as heterosexuals do. People opposing gay marriage argue that a couple of the same sex getting married would redefine the word marriage, the purpose of marrying is to procreate, and they should settle for Civil Unions instead. I feel that all fifty states in the U.S. should allow same-sex marriages. Only in the states of, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, California, along with the District of Columbia are gay couples allowed to marry. There are more states that allow first cousins to marry. Same-sex marriage is very important with gay couples and activists in today's society. One of the main reasons is that the primary purpose of marriage is procreation. â€Å"Because gay couples are unable to have children, they should not be allowed to marry† (Schiffen 495) If this is one of their strongest arguments, then marriage licenses should be denied to all couples who are unable to conceive, meaning: men and women over the age of seventy, infertile women, and sterile men. However this is not the case, which is why that argument is invalid. On January 1, 2002, a bill became effective to give members of registered same-sex and opposite-sex couples the right to adopt a partner's child. In the world we live in today, people have quite easy access to things that can corrupt them. These things cloud one’s judgment and coerce people into doing things they should not. Alcohol is one of those things. Alcohol is extremely easy to get ahold of. It can be attained from anywhere; there are bars and liquor stores on every corner. Domestic violence is a huge issu e all around the globe; in the United States, alcohol plays a major role in it. While alcohol abuse does not directly cause domestic violence, it definitely contributes. Alcohol may increase the risk and severity of violence in homes where incidents have occurred before (Holtby 2). Since alcohol can affect one’s judgment to a point where they are irritable, angry, violent, or lazy some abusers use alcohol as a form of justification for violence (Bennett 1). Large quantities of alcohol, or any for alcoholics, can make the drinker feel more powerful and controlling than others, which can make an abuser feel the need to begin extending this power and control over their spouse (Bennett 1-2). When all those traits get added into a family unit there is going to be trouble. Either it will be one spouse asking their partner to stop drinking which causes an argument that will eventually escalate into violence, or it will be the alcohol clouding a person’s judgment and then they turn violent towards their spouse.
